How to Configure Router GNS3 After Installation

After successful installation of GNS3. Setup wizard display when first time starts up it allows you to configure GNS3 easily.

You can also start setup wizard manually anytime by clicking Help Menu and then setup wizard.

You can disable the Setup Wizard from displaying by selecting the Don’t show this again checkbox. Then select Local Server and click Next

The option Add an IOS router using a real IOS image (supported by Dynamips) is selected by default. Leave that selected and click Finish.

New IOS router template displays. Click New Image then Browse.  Click here for Download

Browse to the folder where you have stored and downloaded your Cisco IOS images, select the image  and click Open: (If you haven’t Cisco ISO search google for this only for learning purpose.)

After select IOS it will ask for decompressing this IOS image click Yes. This is recommended for a better experience and fast booting.

Now it will display the location of decompressed image click Next

Name and platform window displays leave this default and click Next.

A Default RAM setting is displayed change to 256Mib. Click the Check for minimum and maximum RAM requirement option if you want to check requirement of this IOS.

Select these options for ethernet interface of router.

Also, select these option for serial Interfaces.

It is important for optimum GNS3 performance. Click Idle-PC finder and wait for completion of the process.



An Idle-PC value is displayed. Click OK to complete. If no Idle-PC value is displayed, try clicking the Idle-PC finder button again. You may also need to reboot your computer and try again is no value is found.

The Preferences window displays showing the settings you have configured through the Setup Wizard. Click OK to complete the process:
